From 1 January 2021, the current European Union (EU) rules on social security have been replaced by the Trade and Cooperation agreement, which includes a Protocol on social security coordination (the Protocol). The new rules may contain an unexpected pitfall for some assignments up to 24 months under certain assignment structures.
