There was an exciting buzz and energy in the room for our first European Super Huddle this week. Despite Storm Ciara’s best efforts, the team made it to Amsterdam by train, plane and automobile in time to set up and get ready for, what turned out to be, a fantastic day.
The aim of the agenda was to celebrate success and to inspire Global Mobility professionals. As with all Expat Academy events, we know how much our members are kind enough to support each other, collaborate and share ideas and this event was no exception.
First up, Zainab Nabi from Prosus Group provided us with an insight into stakeholder management, the tools she has used over the years and how important it is to adjust your message for your audience. This clearly struck a chord with many as there were a number of questions for Zainab and plenty of people taking notes of the thought provoking insights.
During the coffee break the conversations continued in the networking room and there was lots of fun to be had on the interactive sponsored stands.
Replenished with coffee and delicious treats everyone headed back to the conference room for the Network Huddle session. Questions had been sent in prior to the event and initially, continuing on from Zainab’s presentation, the theme of stakeholder management was discussed and in particular looking at how best to engage the stakeholders when looking to undertake a policy review. The next hot topic discussion gave the tables a choice between either host-based policies and the potential challenges to avoid or introducing core-flex and whether it could in fact reduce assignment costs.
The table discussions took us into lunch where once again the conversations continued in the networking room interspersed with fun and a marked increase in competitive spirit as people tackled the challenges on the interactive stands.
After lunch, our top panel tackled some more of the hot topic questions that had been submitted, including Posted Workers Directive, Cross Border workers, the issues arising as a result of the reduction in the 30% withholding tax, sustainability and shared the challenges they were facing. A massive thanks to Anna-Belle Van Der Donk (Saint-Gobain), Caroline Scheffer (European Space Agency), Frans Smidt (Apollo Vredestein) and Steven Kayser (PVH) for providing their thoughts and insights and allowing us to put them on the spot with questions from the room.
After the tea break, we rounded off the day with an inspirational presentation by our keynote speaker, Debra Searle MBE. It was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to take the chance to step back from their day to day and learn how choosing the right attitude can transform our work lives and our personal lives.
The day was rounded off with networking drinks and the final chance to discuss issues and share experience and knowledge.
A massive thanks to everyone that came, despite the challenging weather, and so openly shared their knowledge, experience and expertise.
