Expat Academy Government Announces New Post-study Work Route for International students

Next year a new “Graduate” route will open for international students who have completed a course of study in any subject at undergraduate level or above at an approved UK Higher Education provider.

The scheme will enable foreign graduates, regardless of country of origin, to obtain permission to remain in the UK on completion of their studies and to work or look for work. After two years they will be permitted to switch into long term UK based employment if they meet the requirements of the skilled worker schemes.

The latest post-study route will launch for the 2020/21 intake of students to university.

The Home Secretary say’s that the announcement “demonstrates our global outlook and will ensure that we continue to attract the best and brightest”.

It is true that the scheme indicates a shift in approach from the highly restrictive immigration policies of the previous administration.
