Nike Hilversum: Where Thinking Big Met Strategic Reframing
Last week found us at Nike's stunning Hilversum headquarters, and what a day it turned out to be! From the opening session that had everyone rethinking what's possible when you start with audacious questions, to heated debates that nearly had people arguing against their own positions - this Huddle delivered exactly the kind of perspective shifts our community craves.
Beyond the Usual
We kicked off with Tatiana from Nike’s ACG (All Conditions Gear) marketing team - almost nobody had heard of ACG before, but they certainly have now! Their approach to transformational thinking set the tone perfectly: start big, let realism naturally temper your ambitions, and you might still end up with something extraordinary. It's the kind of mindset shift that changes how you approach everything back at your desk – including Global Mobility!
Reframing What Holds You Back
The leadership workshop tackled the trap conversations holding GM teams back from strategic influence, exploring how simple language shifts can have profound impact on stakeholder perception. We challenged everyone to redefine their function's purpose and map their activities accordingly - discovering where real value lies in the process. One attendee's spontaneous reframing suggestion had the entire room frantically taking notes and that’s what we love about our Huddles – the peer advice is unrivalled!
Strategic Intelligence, Not Just Compliance
Ray Rackham from Newland Chase delivered what one attendee described as a presentation they "could listen to all day" - pivoting from standard updates to what regulatory changes mean for GM's strategic positioning. Xavier from Nike and Csilla from Newland Chase brought us back to fundamentals with case study advice that reminded everyone: strategic thinking requires rock-solid foundations.
ECA's compensation strategy session revealed why some teams face constant complaints whilst others sailing through the same scenarios relatively unscathed - and it's not about the packages themselves, it’s all about communication!
The (Brief!) Debate
We finished with our Perspective Playground debate, arguing where Global Mobility should sit, or whether it even matters. Though admittedly, the Nike employee store was calling, and we ALL had 25% discount! I know when I can’t compete for people’s time, and this was one of those moments!
After the store came the pub where the real networking happens, and eventually home - absolutely shattered but buzzing with ideas.
These Netherlands Huddles continue to create those lightbulb moments you simply can't get from staying at your desk! One attendee mentioned that while these days are time out of work, they are worth the investment (you know who you are, I’ll give you the €10 next time! Joking – I don’t pay for live testimonials in front of groups…😁). Talking of next time, our next one is on 15th October in Amsterdam, co-hosted by Rituals! Want in? You know where to find us!
